Is the packaging sustainable and how can I dispose of my packaging?Updated 20 days ago

Yes! We continuously strive to find the most sustainable options that provide you with the highest quality seafood.

Box:

The corrugated box is biodegradable and recyclable. Here is some more information on why we believe corrugated is a great choice. It also makes a great fort for your cats!

Liner:

We use different liners based on availability and the specifics of your order. All are sustainable choices.

  • If you receive a brown newspaper designed liner it's a paper-based, 100% curbside recyclable and compostable liner. Simply place it in your paper recycling bin along with other paper products.
  • If you receive a white liner it's biodegradable cotton wrapped in plastic. Simply remove the plastic around the cotton liner, place the plastic in the recycling bin, and place the cotton liner in the trash. Since it's biodegradable, it will naturally decompose instead of taking up space in a landfill. The entire liner can also be in-store recycled as #4 plastic anywhere that accepts household textiles. Here is some additional information on how to recycle the liner. The cotton is 100% postindustrial content with no post-consumer. This is important because post-consumer cotton is not biodegradable as it has too much synthetic material in it.

Coolant:

  • Gel Packs - The gel packs are food-safe, non-toxic, and can be consistently refrozen and reused. If you choose to dispose of them, the plastic should be thrown away. We are actively working on finding a film that is recyclable.
  • Dry Ice - Dry ice is simply frozen carbon dioxide so it's a sustainable choice that will naturally dissipate on its own. The plastic bags the dry ice comes in can be tossed (We are actively working on finding a plastic bag that is recyclable).  If your item is shipped with dry ice, please be careful not to touch the dry ice with bare hands because contact can cause severe cold burns and frostbite. Instead, use thick gloves or tongs to remove the ice and let it evaporate outside or in a well-ventilated area. Keep it away from children and pets. Do not put dry ice in tightly closed containers or down a drain.  For a fun party trick you can run the dry ice under water for a fog show!
